Digital Tools

One of the drawbacks when considering implementing tools is that the effort required to digitise a plant (especially an old one) is rather high. A way to help with this cost and time burden is to reuse the data generated by other tools in order to get the full benefit. So far, most of these tools are stand-alone solutions. The idea behind the PLEIADES project is to provide a common interface to these tools and allow an exchange of the data between the tools.

A number of cutting-edge digital tools will be collected and implemented onto the platform and tested in three use cases. Technology such as AR, VR and AI are used to model and simulate the facility and the entire decommissioning process.

iDROP

Partner: CEA
VR technology-based software for dismantling operations simulation, including real-time accessibility simulation (in contact or remote handling) and interactive dose rate assessment. It will be used to carry out feasibility studies on the scenarios envisaged to find the best solutions and to train future operators by offering them an immersive and interactive experience.

DemPlus

Partner: CYCLIFE DS
Decision-support tool combined with 3D simulation for interventions in the nuclear field (costs, planning, dose and waste assessment).

VRDOSE™

Partner: IFE
Real-time software tool for modelling and characterising nuclear environments, planning jobs, optimising protection and producing job plan reports

BIMSYNC

Partner: CATENDA
Bimsync can be used in the project as a platform for coordination of tasks and information linked with BIM-models interactively visualised 2D and 3D. Bimsync also has a rich API which can be used to create new software or add open BIM support and interactive visualisations.

AQUILA COSTING

Partner: WAI
Software for calculating costs for decommissioning of any type of the nuclear facility – power plants, research reactors, non-reactor facilities such as waste management facilities, fuel cycle facilities or laboratories

RADPIM

Prototype software, based on advanced knowledge-centric Plant Information Management concepts, combining 3D computer aided design (CAD) modelling with 3D -simulation-based analyses and visualisation of safety information, and 3D real-time user interaction.

IMS

Partner: IUS
Semantic wiki, based on semantic mediawiki, specifically designed to be used in nuclear decommissioning and related services.

3DSCANPF

Partner: KIT
Autonomous robotic platform allowing 3D point cloud scans and photographic imaging. Gamma scanning is currently being extended.

INTERACT

Partner: LS
Powerful platform for creating advanced mixed reality simulations. Its high accuracy physics engine provides complex simulations, including detection of rigid and flexible body collisions on any VR/AR configuration. It has an open architecture allowing it to communicate with external software.

DIM TOOL

Partner: EDF & CEA
The DIM tool (Dismantling Information Modelling) is aimed at storing all data describing the nuclear facility to be dismantled. This includes 3D data (computer aided design (CAD) models, point cloud mainly) and 1D data linked to CAD objects (physical, chemical and radiological inventories, other characteristics).

ARWORKFLOW ALVAR BIM ACCESS

Partner: VTT
Augmented reality technology for efficient interaction with BIM systems (models and IoT). The technology is based on VTT’s ALVAR for Unity, a game engine plugin for easy and fast development of augmented reality applications. The new features of ALVAR for Unity and the ALVAR BIM Access developed with it will be introduced, tested and implemented in the PLEIADES project.

LLWAADECOM

Partner: TRACTEBEL
Low Level Waste Activity Assessment is a computer code, developed by TRACTEBEL based on the characteristics and operation conditions of a Nuclear Power Plant. The Decom module is developed to calculate the decommissioning waste for the plant. The LLWAA and LLWAA-DECOM software are developed to perform the radiological characterisation and the radiological inventory, and the estimation of decommissioning Radioactive Waste
