About our research project
For a Safer Decommissioning & Dismantling of Nuclear Facilities
When a nuclear facility has reached the end of
its lifetime, or policy no longer supports
nuclear power, the facility must be shut down as
safely as possible. This is a challenge due to
the radioactive waste and many moving parts of
the facility.
To ensure the safety
and well-being of the people involved and the
environment around an old facility, PLEIADES
help standardising Decommissioning & Dismantling
(D&D) processes.
The project
provides a single interface for emerging
technologies on D&D operations. It developed a
platform embedding all the latest digital
technologies to be implemented on dismantling
sites, with interoperable tools for each step of
the D&D process. The possible exchange of data
between tools also allows for simulations,
including scenario feasibility, waste
estimation, dosimetric assessment and costs and
duration estimation.
The key aspect
of the platform rely on the use a Building
Information Modelling (BIM), a technique used to
coordinate and manage different technologies for
smooth project management.
